Support for OpenEXR files

#1 Post by Botoni »

Hi!

It would be great if PhotoRec were able to recover deleted or specially overwritten .exr openEXR files (those are image files able to store several layers and with up to 32b color depth), as it's a format commonly used in CG and VFX pipelines and it's always a risk to delete or overwrite in all the back and forth working in different stages.

To recover OpenEXR v2 files, you can create a custom signature file name photorec.sig
"exr 0 0x762f310102"
It's possible to test the signature using photorec followed by an exr file.
Read https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf chapter "Creating custom signature for PhotoRec".
