Overwritten NTFS partition

#1 Post by MrPompous »

I am working on a 2Tb disk drive that was having Ubuntu installed and the data partition with about 250 Gb of data on a 1.5Tb partion, was overwritten by Ext4 400Gb partition, leaving the rest of the old NTFS partition as unallocated.
I have used photorec to get most of the NTFS files back however I am wondering what is the best way to recover any data in the unallocated area? Any thoughts or ideas?

Another possibility is to run TestDisk, Analyse, Quick Search. If the partition isn't found, try Deeper Search.
When the NTFS partition is found, select it, use 'p' to list its files and try to copy your files.
It may not work as ext4 contains numerous backup superblock that may have overwritten ntfs structure or data.
