File-Signature .3ds vs. .max

#1 Post by tocktock »

Hi, i try to rescue some .3ds Files:

(3DS Max FileFilename extension .3ds
Internet media type application/x-3ds, image/x-3ds
Magic number 4D 4D (hex), MM (ASCII)
Developed by Autodesk Inc.
Type of format 3D file formats (From Wikipedia)

I saw that 3ds max files are under the supported file types . But i don´t get one. I do not want to rescue .max files i want to rescue .3ds files. So i tried to make a custom signature with a photorec.sig (Signature-File) but i failed every time
and fidentify_win.exe will not recognize my file.

3ds 0 "3D Studio File", 0x4D4D, "3D-Object"
3ds 0 "3D Studio File, 4D4D, "3D-Object

and so on ....

What i do wrong?
