USB Disk with new overlapping partition

#1 Post by whitetiger »

I created a recovery disc for Windows, but by mistake I did not indicate the letter of the DVD burner, but that of a 500GB USB disk.
Windows thus cleared the partition table, creating a new 32GB partition, but writing only 244MB.
Now when I run TestDisk, the program only sees this small partition, while I would like to recover mainly the data in the remaining part of the disk, in addition to what is in the new partition and which has not yet been overwritten (almost 99%) .

I haven't figured out how to use TestDisk for this, though, if it is possible.

Thanks in advance for the help and any advice.

What has been the type of the file system on the 500GB USB disk?

In the new small partition is a FAT32.
Previously there were two or three partitions on the disk, these also FAT32

If you did not overwrite the one or two partitions behind the overwritten one, Testdisk should find them.
Try "deep search".
