I'd like to do a boot sector diagnose and have a try to list your data.
In case if it would be succesful, you could copy your data.
Start TestDisk, confirm at create a log with enter and select your affected disk.
Confirm at partition table type with enter also
Don't confirm at Analyse but Advanced.
Mark Type and press enter.
Press enter to continue.
At the left side you see your cursor blinking.
Write 07 (zero - seven, it's the partition type code for NTFS) and press enter.
Confirm at Boot.
Highlight Rebuild BS and hit Enter.
Rebuild your BS will be in progress.
Normally, it takes some minutes.
If it's finished, please post the infos or upload a screen.
If you see a menu List, please highlight it and press enter.
Please let us know, do you see your data or an error message.
To get back to the previous screen, easily press q for Quit.

Infos will follow.

Hi Fiona, thank you very much for working with me :!: :D

I have been rebuilding the the BS for 4 hours...My BS is about 180000000, the rebuild has reached 27 million and I have about 15200000 to finish the process. It is taking longer then I suspected and what I have read from other posts is that may be a sign of a courrupt, faulty file system, :x I HOPE NOT

Fiona, IF the recovery is successful and I am able to view all my files AND copy them to a good disk -

THEN, would it be okay to >>choose Write and confirm<< and then In Analyse, choose to rewrite the partition with the correct partition type.

What do you feel Fiona :?:

anticipation...
ducklip :)

The strange thing is, that you can't select your disk, because it's gonna change to drive?
I can't judge this behavior.
That you've probably read errors displays the diagnose of CrystalDiskInfo.
If TestDisk gets to an read error it might be hang?
A boot sector diagnose is actually a good try not to stress your disk as much.
In the meantime, did you clone your disk or did you create a sector copy?

Great to here from you Fiona, :D
I am not able to be at my computer for a few more hours - so I don't know what has happened yet - if it worked or not.

Not sure what you mean Fiona?

I am going to try to use "Recue Remix" it has ddrescue when I get home and after I see if testdisk did it's magic...it should be done by the time I get home - it would have been running 10 hours by then.

thanks for corresponding,

WOW  TEST DISK is still trying to rebuild the BS...after 10 hrs it is at 76000000 of the 180000000 it has to reach...

No "errors" - so I suppose I should let it continue, or should I end it and try to capture an image with *ddrescue* :?:

What should I do ? :?

Or do you have some tricks up your sleeve Fiona? 8-)

Goodmorning Fiona,
I have begun an image with Ubuntu RescueRemix - ddrescue...I will report more in the "File System repair" Forum -in the "COPY bad DISK thread on how I was able to do that and will update with progress or lack there-of.

Still, thank you very very much for petting my little furry duck head through this stressful experience.
I am learning a lot and love testdisk and photorec and you too for being so kind and helpful...

I am still confident and I have not given up hope yet!

Regards,
ducklip
