ESD USB on External Hard Drive

#1 Post by Hefton »

Hello,

I used my 1TB external drive to install a windows 10 image on it.
Very stupid idea because i had only one partition which is lost now.
I think the initial partition was NTFS, I did not change anything after I bought it.
I deleted the 32 GB windows partition the mircrosoft media creation tool created afterwards.
I also tried Photorec and I think it could restore almost everything but I still have the hope that there is a way to restore the whole structure.

I started quick search and deep search afterwards, which took around 60 hours. I chose the partion table EFI GPT because it was suggested.

I don't post the log file in this text becaus it's way too long. The log file was created after Quick Search. I don't know why there was no file after deep search.

What else can I do?
What does "The harddisk (1000 GB / 931 GiB) seems too small! (< 2000 GB / 1863 GiB)" mean?
Thanks for your help!

After Deeper Search, select the second partition and use 'p' to list the files.
If you can see your files, use the arrow keys to switch this partition from D(eleted) to P(rimary).
On next screen, choose Write, confirm, if asked, BackupBS and confirm, Quit and restart your computer

If you can see your files
That's the point where I couldn't go on.
There was no file listed. "Can't open filesystem. Filesystem seems damaged."

What else can I try to recover the partition? Clone the hard drive?
