I've undeleted my data, but formats are irrelevant :(

#1 Post by Avis »

Sadly I deleted my business files permanently on my MacBook (Mojave 10.14.6) by accident. It was a bit of shock, but I didn't over-wright anything to my disk and then I used photorec to undelete my files.
I knew that I was unable to have my file names back by doing this, and I have saved nearly the amount of data that I have lost, but I didn't expect to have them in different file formats. I have had '.wav' files, folders etc. but now I have '.exe' files or property lists... :?

Is there a way to sum up these fragmented files? Frankly, I don't even know how to name this situation. I did research extensively but I couldn't find a proper solution to this or maybe I am missing sth idk. Any bit of help would be appreciated.

Or unpack or reshape... Sorry, I am unfamiliar with the terminology. I just want to have my files back as they were.

You can see the current situation on the link I've provided above. They were generally '.wav' files and Ableton projects '.als'.

I get that, but finding my files back in the .exe format on a macOS makes no sense to me. Is there a meaningful explanation for this?

I wonder because according to the Photorec report, there was not broken or damaged file.

I can't see your report.
There is no meaningful interpretation.
You might have used an unsupported file system, read the online documentation.
