Trouble finding deleted file

#1 Post by catalyph »

I was testing the Undelete feature of 7.1 and 7.2
I placed a text file of about 8kb on my Windows 10 desktop. and deleted it, then emptied the recycling bin.
Opened Testdisk about 30 seconds later and went through the undelete menu, it came up with lots of files, I filtered for the text file name and nothing was found, I filtered for the date and nothing was found.

Why is my file not being found as deleted?

I have Windows 10 installed on NVMe drive NTFS

Read the manual!
The file may have already been overwritten.

Create a reliable setup for file undelete experiments.
Use a USB stick with no regular writing activities.

Keep in mind that Testdisk recovers the path to the deleted file as well on the target location.
