I have also a similar issue. I had borrowed a Nicon camera for a function and had stored the photo on my laptop. But accidently I delete all phtos while I reinstalled the OS. When I ran testdisk I could recover only .JPG files. But the photos were of .JPEG extension.
When I sacned a jpeg file in the cg security website it said the file is unrecognized.
