Recovering 2 partitions on one drive

Hey guys, recently one of my drives just gave out, the data seemed intact on the drive as i could see it all using tesktdisk, but what i did is cloned the drive to a new drive to properly recover without fear of losing the original files as i'm new to using testdisk.
I have run the analysis and a bunch of deeper searches to try get to the point of being able to write the partition tables and now I'm at this point.
It shows both of my partitions correctly with their file structures intact, but if i label them both P or a combination of P and any other label, it will show that my structure is bad, what am i doing wrong here? And if i need to back out to change any menu settings how do i get back to this partition list without having to analyse everything again (i have logs being written)

The first two partitions are overlapping. That's why you aren't allowed to write a partition table including both partitions.
If you have a log file including data of a deep search your only chance to avoid to repeat the analysis is by manually adding partitions.

You should use the "p"-key ("list files") to find out if Testdisk is able to read the partitions. If that fails try out a commercial recovery program. Using Photorec as an armaggedon tool implies loss of metadata such as file names and folder structures. Use Photorec if you have no money to pay for a commercial recovery program or if the commercials fail to provide file name and folders.

Hey thanks for the response!

Yeah both partitions have all the files listed, can see everything in the log files too, all the filestructures are intact also so it seems good there.
So if the 2 main partitions are overlapping how is the best way to write these part tables?

I could go and pay for a commercial recov program but was just going to give testdisk a shot as ive got a clone of my drive anyway so i can experiment a bit with this!

If you did not purchase your Toshiba 8 TB disk with an external housing you should run Testdisk in GPT mode. Otherwise only 2 TB out of 8 TB can be addressed by the MBR-style partition table given a sector size of 512 bytes.

If the partitions overlap and you don't know to which partition that (incorrectly) shared area belongs to, just use Testdisk to copy each of its content to another disk.

The new drive is 8tb but the drive i cloned onto it is only 2tb, will re analyse in GPT mode though, and as for copying the partitions to another disk, can you point me to the right resource on how to copy the partitions each separately? been searching but not having much luck finding exactly what i need there. (unless yorue just talking about going into the partitions, selecting all files and copying the files specifically)

set the files to copy now and its going through them, though would be nicer to be able to actually fix the partitions as it would be a lot faster but i can settle for this as an alternative
