I accedently deleted my backup drive partition

#1 Post by AnimeDan »

ok i moved all my files over to my back up 3tb drive so i could reformat the drive thoes files were on, but after formating my other drive, i accadently deleted the Backup 3tb drive that had all my files that i was gonna move back over.

ok i tried going threw the steps and i got to the part where "Quick Search for partitions" AND then i chose [write] then it said error cant write

with above that saying
Warning: Incorrect number of heads/cylinder 1 (NTFS) != 255 (HD)
Warning: Incorrect number of sectors per track 1 (NTFS) != 63 (HD)

when the drive was in perfect working order except that i deleted the partition in disk management

If you are running TestDisk from Mac OS X, you need to umount the other partitions/eject the disk to be able to write a new partition table.

Intel MAC uses EFI GPT.
Your disk capacity is larger than 2,2 TB, that's why it uses the same Partition table type EFI GPT.
Results can look pretty similar.

Please don't use the TestDisk 64-bit-Version but 32-bit.

Please at disk selection select your Disk and not a drive.
When you see partition table type, choose EFI GPT because you have a 3 TB disk!
Run Analyse and Quick Search.
Analyse displayes your current partition table and Quick Search provides first results.
I'll need infos from Analyse about your current partition structur and Quick Search.
Screens during the scan (Quick Search)doesn't help as much.
Only if I'll require it.
But important after Quick Search are the sesults.
I'll need these infos also.
If no partition is found, run Deeper Search.

Your current partition table looks wrong!
It has an invalid signature.
But after Quick Search it's displayed correctly!

Please press p to list your data!
Do you see your data or an error message?

If you see your data, you can recover your partition.
Press enter to proceed.
You'll be at this screen;

Check Write and press enter and y.
Close testdisk using quit.
Restart your computer.

well i have to tell u something, when i pressed write and got the write error message i went back in to the testdisk and showed my [p] data list and while keeping it open on that page I then clicked refresh in disk management and for some reason my partition is back

is that normal when getting a write error?
if not can you tell me what i need to do even thoue i have my drive partition back, since it came back when even it said write error with the p list open should i be worried about backing up data on it fearing that it will dissapear 1 day?

Nice to read it! 8-)
Looks like that Write worked, despite that error message?
Well, I've seen this message during the last couple of days a few times on EFI GPT.
Thanks for your information and should be forwarded. :)

Until yet, I can't judge that issue at all.
Normally, TestDisk works stable!
Check your disk using crystal disk info and run manufacturer diagnose tool.
If it's in a good shape, use it!

It's allways a good idea to have a backup.
