where to find recovered data?

#1 Post by carsun1000 »

Hello,

So after 12 hours my 250G external HD was recovered (hopefully) the only problem is I dont know where to look. The message says that the recovered files where be found at /testdisk-6.14-WIP/recup_dir but I dont know how to get there. I tried right click computer and manage. All it sayas is that my HD is healthy but no data. Can anyone please help me? Thank you!

Hi

Before proceeding with the search, you should remember that there is a location that you have selected. This is when you press C. Try to remember where you extracted that file of yours. If not, try running the scan again noting where you actually saved it. The way I did mine is actually make a separate folder in another drive and have all the files saved there. Hope that helps. The program should be fairly easy to used as long you read carefully with the help of the read me tutorial online.

Actually standard path where PhotoRec copies data to, is the testdisk folder.
I assume that you ran PhotoRec from it.
The names are like recup_dir.1 etc..
Would it be possible that you must take ownership to make your recovered folders visible?
It's right click your testdisk folder / properties / security.

Would it be possible to check the size of your testdisk folder?
In rare cases users caught a virus.
They recovered their data but they were not visible either.
In case unhide.exe helped to make them visible;
