How to use TestDisk within Ubuntu Linux?

#1 Post by alvinmoneypit »

Hi all,
Is it possible to use TestDisk under Ubuntu Linux 10.10? I'm trying to recover files and possibly repair mbr on a pen drive but cannot figure out how to run the program on my desktop. When I try to run it, it is totally unresponsive, when I try the terminal, it says 'command not found". I'm a novice at Linux so simplicity is called for if you please.

I got the program working, but it's not seeing my drive in question, a 2G USB drive. The activity light is on, I suspect I fudged the drive by pulling it during a write operation. Is there any 'next step" I can do to repair the drive or recover the files?

If using TestDisk you see all your disks except this one, it probably means the hard disk is physically damaged.
You will have to contact a data recovery company.
