Phone memory card

#1 Post by forgottobackup »

I was using it perfectly fine a while ago and for no reason I felt like freeing some space on the micro SD card. Thinking it was finished deleting, I removed the adapter without safely removing it and asked me to reformat the card. Following the step-by-step solutions here, I managed to open the contents but almost all the important folders cannot be opened, displaying a "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". Now I just wish everything can be back to how it was either when it was corrupted or when it was normal because I probably did something wrong somewhere..
Problems.

Quick search. Has the main folders inside but not the things inside the folders. Shows no file found, filesystem may be damaged.

Your partition in your partition table is different to the found one using Quick and Deeper Search.
Please test a boot sector diagnose (Rebuild BS) on that wrohn extended partition in your partition table.
Extended partitions don't contain any data, that's why you should change it to FAT32 LBA.
Please do the following diagnose;
Start TestDisk, confirm at create a log with enter and select your affected disk.
Confirm at partition table type with enter also
Don't confirm at Analyse but Advanced.
Now you probably see only your extended partition.
Please check the menu "Type" and press enter.
Press enter to continue.
At the right, your cursor will be blinking.
Type 0c for FAT32 LBA.
Press ok to leave the menu.
Confirm at Boot.
Highlight Rebuild BS and hit Enter.
Rebuild your BS will be in progress.
Normally, it takes some minutes.
If it's finished, please post the infos or upload a screen.
If you see a menu List, please highlight it and press enter.
Please let me know, do you see your data or an error message.
To get back to the previous screen, easily press q for Quit.

Infos will follow.

Easily confirm with y for yes to keep these folders and files.
TestDisk can still look for another directories.
If you see any, conform with N.
If Rebuild is finished, you see a menu List.
Please check it and confirm with enter.
Now it's time to copy your data first.
At the bottom of the screen are all the commands.
Standard directory is your testdisk folder.
If you want to change ist, you can mark that two dots and press enter, you'll get one directory up.
To enter any folder, just check it and use your right arrow key on your keyboard.
Standard path where you copy your files to is the testdisk folder.

Olease let me know.
If you get displayed more directories with files and in your current directory are some files missing, you can repeat this diagnose for the next directory.

Until you don't use Write, you'll not going to change anything to your SD card.

Can you recover your photos and videos first using PhotoRec in your testdisk folder?
Some Infos;
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step
PhotoRec doesn't keep the file names nor directories but would be ok for photos.
Please have a try to recover it first, so that you have at least some files back.
Afterwards you cann still try to repair it using TestDisk or at least to copy data.

So now I got all the things back but there's just so many of them.. Guess I'll just have to redo the whole memory card back.. Thanks anyway! By the way is there any way to return it back just to the state it was before it was corrupted?
I have the folders fine so I want to delete just the corrupted ones but it seems that I cannot delete the corrupted folders..

So now I got all the things back but there's just so many of them..
Do you mean that PhotoRec recovered a lot of files, with no names and directories?
You can select what file types should PhotoRec recover using the menu "File Opt".
Pressing s deselect all file types.
So you can choose waht type of files, for example jpg, mov etc.. you'd like to recover.
After data recovery you can have another try using TestDisk and Rebuild BS to get your files with names and directories back.
If you're satisfy now, you can easily reformat your card using you camera.
If you experience any problems, you can try the hp USB storage tool.
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/f ... ption.html
Afterwards check your card using chkdsk driveletter: /r.
If you'd like to check the status of your card, you can use CrystalDiskInfo;

After I recovered my things, I rebuild BS and now they show the corrupted folders deleted. I don't mind, but I cannot write it. When I check my card it shows those files deleted but somehow the memory space used by those files remain.

Do you have any background process like Antivirus, Norton GoBack, Norton Sonar, which prevent testdisk from writing a boot sector?
Also check the status of your card using CrystalDiskInfo.
If you have as far your data, you can consider to reformat it for further use.
Best way to have it compatible would be by using your camera.
Otherwise you can try the HP USB Storage Tool.
Might be possible that your card is physically damaged.
In case you should replace it.
