WD Problem: Next Step

#1 Post by theatot »

Hello! My hard drive cannot be accessed and wants me to reformat it. I tried following TestDisk's intructions and somehow I'm lost.

1. First, I headed to the [Analyse] section and here are the results:
>Disk /dev/sdf - 500 GB / 465 GiB - CHS 69801 255 63
Partition. Start End Size in sectors
>*HPFS - NTFS 0 32 33 60801 15 14 976766976 [lJajamsn]

Structure:Ok

(Listed files are ok and complete)

2. Then I went to [Advanced] and entered [Boot]
Boot Sector: OK
Backup boot sector
Status: OK
Sectors are identical.

A valid NTFS Boot sector must be present in order to access any data; even if the partition is non bootable.

3. I went to [Rebuild BS] and this is the result
filesystem size 976766976
sectores_per_cluster 8
mft_lcn 786432
mftmirr_lcn 61047935
clusters_per_mft_record -10
clusters_per_index_record 1
Extrapolated boot sector and current boot sector are identical

4. I tried the [Repair MFT] and this what it says:
Can't read NTFS MFT mirror

I'm afraid that if I went and entered something I don't know, I might make my problem worse. Please help.

Try to list and copy your files using TestDisk (menu Advanced), if it failed, use PhotoRec to recover your data.
