RECOVER FILES FROM UNALLOCATED PARTITIONS

#1 Post by Bill »

I can not get TestDisk to recognize files in 2 unallocated partitions on a FAT12 drive. It will only find the files that are in a 2MB FAT partition.

I am desperate to recover my files in these unallocated partitions. What I think happened was I took an external drive from a windows based machine connect via USB, connected to my IMAC and apparently I wrote to the disk loading pictures from the IMAC. Ever since, I am unable to get to these files on either machine...

I've ran both quick search and deeper search and get the same result.

Any advice is sincerely appreciated.

Bill

Unallocated means there is only free and not used space at all.
There isn't even a partition.
From what kind of media do you want to recover data from?

FAT12 is only used for 2 MB or smaller media. like floppy.
If PhotoRec doesn't find your files after selecting the partition and [Whole], enable the expert mode in Options, restart a recovery and use a 512 byte blocksize, use the default options otherwise.
