TestDisk doesn't find drive

#1 Post by siris »

Hi,

just downloaded TestDisk because my 1TB WD Elements doesn't show up anymore.
I copied two big folders the other day, and during the copy process it gave i/o errors. Cancelled the copy and unplugged the hard drive, and since then it doesn't read anymore.

It shows in the device manager, but not in 'my computer'.

The first time i plugged it back in, Windows7 told me the disk needed formatting, so i cancelled and unplugged it. Since then it doesn't show up anymore at all (except for in the device manager).

In the Mac the hard drive shows not as a drive, but as an empty folder, when i plug it in. Can't run Disk Utility on it, it's greyed out there (and it was read-only for Mac since it must have been NTFS formatted).

Downloaded TestDisk and ran it with the WD plugged in, but no results - TestDisk just displays 'Please wait...' and nothing is happening or showing. Any ideas?

I'd need infos about your file system.
RAW means no file system but only a partition.
Don't format it, otherwise you'll overwrite your previous file system.

Can you upload a screen from TestDisk after Analyse?
It's your current partiton structur (partition table).
If your partition is ok, than you'll only need a boot sector diagnose.

Infos will follow.

I'd need one screen earlier from your current partition structur (your partition table).
On your current screen, please press p to list your files.
Do you see your files or an error message?

This is the file list:

https://picasaweb.google.com/1108804152 ... 9934013634

Not sure which previous screen you refered to - am just running TestDisk again from scratch to take screenshots of all screens that come. Will upload asap.

Thanks Fiona.

Confirm through until you see the menu Analyse.
Press enter to proceed.
I'd need this screen.
This is your partition table.
Also you can see a description called "current partition structur".
It's important to check it for errors.
This screen is the result from Quick Search;
https://picasaweb.google.com/1108804152 ... 1446405458
There is nothing wrong.
Files are listed also;
https://picasaweb.google.com/1108804152 ... 0342466642
In case, you can copy your files to another partition or disk.
At the bottom of the screen you can see the commands.
Don't write or copy anything to your affected drive.
