how am i supposed to use chkdsk when the drive doesnt show up in the exploere

To use chkdsk you need a partition and a filesystem.
Currently it's not possible because you have no partition.
If you backed up your disk, then there should be a try to rewrite your mbr.
If it's a softbad, then it would be possible.
If your disk is physically damaged, it should be replaced.

But something to do first might be to diagnose your image or cloned disk to have a try to get your files.
Did you already diagnose your clone or image?
Were you able to mount it in TestDisk?

i got no space to copy 1 TB of data... will have to wait until i can arrange for another hard disk..
