Large Log file

I'm on a Mac attempting to recover files from an 8TB external drive (only about 1TB was used).
I accidentally started a delete of the wrong external while trying to format new drives. The process failed somehow but it did enough so that the drive appears to have been deleted. I originally was able to run the quick scan in testdisk but wasn't able to figure out how to recover. So, now I'm running a deep search.
My current problem is that although the scan is at 85% I discovered that the log file is significant and is now starting taking up the remaining space of my internal drive (it is currently at 100GB file size). Is this normal? I am trying to keep the deep search going since it as taken days to run, but I don't know if I have enough files I can delete before it goes to 100%; I don't want to stop the search but it seems I may need to do so.
Is there any way to move the log file?
As I am typing this the log file is now growing at a faster pace than before.
