Erased the whole Hdd when installing linux

#1 Post by santoshhh »

So my biggest mistake was assuming, I was installing linux on the Local disk C: as I would do on windows.

I had two partitions while I was on windows, C: and D:. My windows OS crashed and I tried to install windows 10 through usb but I got stuck on a boot loop.

That's when I had the bright idea of installing linux. I used rufus to get linuslite onto a USB and booted off of it. It worked. I had access to the file. But when I tried to transfer it to another storage device, it was stuck at 700mbs, the file was 27 gigs. I thought it was maybe I was running linux off of the usb and things would be faster if I just installed the OS on the device itself. I went through with the setup and it asked me if I wanted to run windows 10 and linux together or erase everything.

I thought it was just talking about the C: my mistake was assuming partitions == disks like in windows.

Linuxlite did install successfully onto the system but when I went to check the storage. It says it can't mount.

And now my file is gone.

I've been researching on forums on how I can recover the file. But I have yet to find someone who has faced the same problem as mine.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could guide me through how I can get it back.

This is a good as saying "I lost something."

My answer is: I am sorry that your file is gone.
