Hello,
I have an unencrypted external storage drive that stopped being mounted or recognized by mac diskutils so I am using PhotoRec to extract files.
I am using all the default options for PhotoRec.
The only file type that gets recovered is 'dovecot' and I get many of them. There were no dovecot files on the drive. I am not able to find much documentation of this filetype and I'm wondering if there are any PhotoRec options that could help.
Thank you in advance.

Re: PhotoRec only recovering dovecot files
Did you select the right drive?
I have no mac experience but I assume that your disk either shows up in both Disk Utility and Testdisk or none of both.
Which file types do you expect to find, if dovecot is not the right one?
