iOS 6 recovery that doesn't require jailbreaking?

Hello, I see photorec supports iOS devices but it requires jail breaking according to the wiki/guide. I'm curious if it's possible without jail breaking by using dd to create an image. The device in question I have is running iOS 6.

Would it be possible to use dd to clone the iOS device into a .img file? (Is this safe? Does dd support iOS devices? Will it work? Should I shutdown the device or leave it on when doing the dd image?)
Since this is iOS 6 and the filesystem isn't encrypted due to the fact that this is pre-iOS 8.

Once cloned with dd, would it be possible to open & inspect with photorec?

Is this the proper route that wouldn't require jail breaking unlike what the photorec wiki states? Or do I HAVE to jailbreak?

Thanks!

AFAIK there is no way to clone the memory without jailbreaking the iPhone.

Hello thanks for the reply.

I'm getting mixed sources, some people are saying all I have to do is plug my iOS device into a computer and turn it off, then use DD to image it, they said since iOS 6 was pre-full disk encryption it would work. I would try it myself but I don't wanna risk screwing it up. Is there a reason dd wouldn't work to dump the disk?

Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply, I tried plugging the iDevice into a linux machine, and it wasn't even recognized in lsblk.

Seems as your right jailbreaking is required, thanks anyways.
