after recovery, two video files seems to run through eachother

#1 Post by johnnok »

HI,
i have used testdisk, and recovered a video file .mov from my SD card.
next i used 4DDIG file repair to repair the .MOV file.

the end result is that the repaired file now seem to have two videos merged into 1 .mov file.
so it plays 10 seconds of one video and then 20 seconds of the other, and then switches back again with random numbers of seconds of each video.

did i set the block size wrong in the geometry somewhere in photorec?

thx in advance.

What exactly did you do when using TestDisk?

apologies,

i have an SD card, and i formatted it accidentely.
i used testdisk to create an image, and then photorec to recover the files.
the files that were recovered were _ftyp.mov, .bdm, .m2ts, .cpi, .jpg, .mpl.

then i used 4DDigfile repair for the separate mov files.

Did I put the wrong fuel into my fuel tank?
Sorry, I have no clue what you did.

Recover your files directly from your assumably healthy SD-card, please.
If your recovered videos are somehow interleaved, the recovery source was fragmented.

Morning,

thanks for your reply,
i ran phototrec directly from the sd-card (the one that was formatted accidentily).
the recovered files are indeed interleaved, meaning videos that were originally separate on the card are somehow partly merged into another videofile.

also some .mov files are unplayable.
only the .ts and .m2ts files are playable. only those files are really small in size. it looks like they were all small parts of a bigger video file which looks like it has been cut up into 16 kb files.

if the files are fragmented on the sd card, is it repairable?

You can repair your videos manually. I am not aware of any specific repair software.

If you do not delete your pictures or videos on your storage device there will be hardly fragmentation and PhotoRec will yield better results.
If your storage device resides in a smart phone you might not be able to avoid it.
