Formatting lost on SD Card in Cell Phone

Hello,

I have extended the internal memory of my Xioami REDMI 9 cell phone by inserting a Transcend Premium 300S microSDXC card (128GB Class 10, UHS-I, UHS-Class 3).

Roughly a year after adding the card, my cellphone suddeny claimed that the card is not formatted. I attached the card to my Windows PC, getting the same result.

Now I'm wondering if it is preferable to try and recover the files first, or go ahead and attempt to repair the file system. Normally I would choose the recover the files, but since they have not been deleted, but rather are inaccessible due to the formatting being lost, I'm hesitant and do not want to cause further damage by taking the wrong steps.

I appreciate any advice.

Use TestDisk to see if it shows the content of the unformatted partition. If that fails use third party software. If nothing helps, use PhotoRec.

Hello recuperation,

Thanks for your post.

I finally used PhotoRec in order to recover files, but only two SWF files could be restored from hundreds of photos, all other files were lost. It must have been a very bad crash that happened to the card.
