Recover impossible to mount drive

So I have a drive that is impossible to mount. When Ubuntu tries to auto-mount it, there is no stopping. The cancel option doesn't work either, and testdisk won't even load. Disable the service that auto-mounts and I can open testdisk and see my files. But how can I recover these files without copying? The copy feature of test disk fails on some files so I have to keep starting it again
Thank you

"Auto-mount" is a detrimental feature for data recovery.

Use smartmontools to gather health data to decide to use a data recovery lab:

Use ddrescue as described in the manual before using TestDisk.
