partitions deleted

#1 Post by RANDY »

Hello Everyone,

I was in the using photrec to recover jpg, mpg, and mp3's when the external segate 1tb hard drive (copy destination) seemed to crash. Which leaves me with a few questions. First Is it safe to try photorec with another hard drive, could this be causing the hard drives crash? when you recovery these files are they just copying, are they still on the original hard drive? At this point i have run testdisk on my external hard drive (seagate) with no success. After i run deeper scan it finds two partitions. Both partitions are marked as deleted. I have attempted to restore from back up, but program reads no backup boot found. if i try to write the fat16 partition it reads structure: bad. At this point is better for me to attempt to photorec and risk my laptops hard drive, or is there anything i can do in testdisk to recover my data?

Thanks,
Randy
