Created root user, I can't go to the disks window

Hi, Mac Sonoma 14.8.2. Downloaded testdisk 7.2 for mac.
- enabled root user and root password from Directory Utility. Since "root" and root password, in terminal, either separately or together, show: command not found, I disabled root.
- In System Settings/Privacy and Security/Security, allowed apps from unidentified developer "open anyway"
- In privacy/security given full disk access to terminal
Here is what I tried:
typed: sudo (space) mac pass, which gives: sudo: unrecognized option 'mac password'.
typed: sudo space .photorec, which gives a prompt https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z83UrA ... sp=sharing
I want to run photorec image.dd to recover a damaged CR2 which is in my mac, not an external drive, but I should solve the pass issue first. The good news is that I was actually in the disk window totally accidentally but I didn't take notes on how I ended there. Thank you.
