Not as much luck with Recovermyfiles. It kept throwing invalid file handle errors and didn't seem to find as much as ZAR did.

Is there a way in testdisk to tell it how to create the partitions when it finds the wrong partitions or is that an indication of things being too screwed up to be usable?

Just an update. I was able to use ZAR to see files and recover "some" of them. It looked promising for a while but in the end I don't think I ended up getting many usable files. I had hoped that with a stripe size of 128k that any file found which was under 128k would be safe (since it would reside on 1 drive) but that doesn't appear to be the case for some reason. Also, with 5 drives and only 1 of them dropping out I also thought that I should be able to retrieve more files but that also proved wrong.

The reason for the multiple partitions looks to be because I had hard drive images and those are being seen as partitions so I may go back and try to use testdisk again and see what happens ignoring the multiple partitions.
