Hello everyone. I'm desperately trying to repair the external hdd of my girlfriend.
She heard the platters make a funny noise and istintively unplugged it, and now if I plug it back in it asks me if I want to format it.
I've tried testdisk to fix the filesystem and regain access to the data on it, but this is the outcome...
Read errors over read errors....
What can I do to try and regain the data on it?....
Thanks a lot everyone, she really has some valuable data there...
Roberto

Re: Read Errors
When there is only a few bad sectors, you can try to clone the hard disk as described in
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Damaged_Hard_Disk
But in your case, I think the disk heads are damaged, only a data recovery specialist can open your disk and swap them for new ones.
