Recovery of a Raw partition that was formatted

#1 Postby ruba » 16 Mar 2012, 13:50

Hello

i formatted my laptop (windows 7) and during formatting , i stopped it due to some power problems,
So when i started my laptop i found out that my secondary local disk (D) is raw (unformatted) and Windows prompts: The drive is not formatted, do you want to format it now?

but unfortunately i clicked yes, and it was formatted,
now when i used TestDisk to recover my files through analyzing and then show files, it didn't work out :( , it shows me the current folders not the old ones :(

i Really want my old folders , it has very important graduation project,,,
i read a lot about the effective power of TestDisk ,, but i really need some guidance to use the correct option in order to recover my files.

TestDisk can't recover an identical formatted partition.
If your partition ist formatted different, like NTFS - FAT vice versa, it would be possible.
Also, when you changed anything about your partition layout, like size etc.. please let me know.
Then a diagnose might be possible.
But if you formatted identical remains datarecovery software
Because, if you format a partition you'll override your previous file system.
TestDisk will only find that empty partition/file system.
Your data are still stored in your underlying sectors.
That's why it's very important not to write anything to your partition anymore.
Otherwise you'll override your important data.
This is a case to use datarecovery software.
Datarecovery software only reads your underlying data und you must recover it to another intact disk/partition.

In case you can have a look at PhotoRec;
