System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
Hello,
A bit more than a month ago, I had an issue where I tried to remove the System Reserved partition. Long story short, I ended up killing my computer's boot hard drive. Detailed information available http://www.sevenforums.com/general-disc ... ywire.html. Please, take the time to read through it. I apologize if it is very long.
As I have mentioned in the link above, I have tried to use TestDisk. The Quick Scan finds nothing. However, during the process of the Full Scan, it does find my missing partition, which I identify by the label "Hard Drive" that I had assigned to it in Windows. When the scan completes, however, the result window does not list that partition that I need, but a bunch of other useless partitions.
All screenshots are available at the above link, but here are two.
This is a screenshot of the Deep Scan in progress. Notice how it lists my missing partition.
However, this is the final result screen of the Deep Scan. It does not list my missing partition.
I will do another Deep Scan and upload the log.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I appreciate any help that anybody can offer.

Re: System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
Did TestDisk list your partition as not recoverable?
Would it be possible to repeat Deeper Search and test it?
Immediately if your partition is displayed, you can create a screen shot, so that I get the values of your missed partition.
Often, after "Deeper Search", if a partition ends after disk limit, you'll get a screen/message too, that your partition is not recoverable.
In this case, create a screen also.
It might be helpful to use a trick to increase your disk size in testdisk virtually, so that your partition might be displayed for recovery and you can have a try to list your data, like in this case;
http://forum.cgsecurity.org/phpBB3/post ... icky#p3435
Also you can use the testdisk.log and copy and paste the content in your next post.
Testdisk.log is more detailed and you find it in your testdisk folder.
You can open it using wordpad etc..

Re: System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
Hey,
Thanks for taking a look. Most of your answers can be found at the link I provided, http://www.sevenforums.com/general-disc ... ywire.html. However, to reconfirm, the two screenshots I posted are of the DEEPER SCAN.
The first screenshot shows my missed partition. Those are the values. The partition is at the FRONT of the hard drive. The only problem is that it doesn't appear at the final screen and I don't get any error message.
Will upload the log file soon. I will just skip the quick scan, and proceed directly to deep scan.
Thanks!

Re: System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
The log file has been truncated.
After Deeper Search, use the arrow key to switch the partitions you want to recover from D(eleted) to *(bootable), P(rimary) or L(ogical). Once it's ok, go on next screen and choose Write and confirm. If asked, choose BackupBS.

Re: System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
Yes, I understand how to recover the partition.
However, the partition that I want to recover, I cannot see it at the final screen where I can choose the partition to recover.
I can see it in the process of the deep scan, but it doesn't appear in the final screen. Refer to my first post for screenshots.

Re: System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
I just realized something
fdisk says that my hard drive has 91201 cylinders. In the screenshot , the 4th row says "CHS 91201 255 63", and the 5th row says "Analyse cylinder X/91200".
Because my hard drive has 91201 cylinders, and the 5th row says analysing the 91200 cylinders, will that be a problem?
That was run on TestDisk 6.14-WIP. HOWEVER, I'm running the quick scan again on TestDisk 6.13, and the 4th row says "CHS 91202 255 63" and the 5th row says "Analyse cylinder X/91201".
The 2 contrasting figures seem to present a problem. I'm going with a quick scan and also a deep scan with version 6.13 and hope it allows me to recover my partition.
If anybody could please explain why the numbers are different, thank you.

Re: System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
Well, I get the same result, even with TestDisk version 6.13.
The final screen is the exact same, although the line where it says "CHS 91201 255 63" in version 6.14-WIP is now "CHS 91202 255 63" in version 6.13.
The log is attached below. Note, I did not attempt recovery of the partition as it was NOT listed in the final screen. Again, the CHS of my partition I need to recover is 0 0 1 19581 64 3.

Re: System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
Several partitions are listed after Deeper Search. You have to choose which one(s) to recover. Select a partition use 'p' to list its content. If you want to recover this partition, use the arrow keys to switch this partition from D(eleted) to P,* or L.
Continue with the next partition. Only once it's finish, go on the next screen and choose to Write the new partition table.

Re: System Hard Drive Problems with TestDisk
Hey cgrenier,
The problem is that after the Deep Search, the partition that I want is NOT listed there. All the ones are other partitions that have NO USE to me.
This has been my issue from post #1. If you look at post #1, in the first screenshot of the Deep Scan process, that is the one partition I want to recover. But in the second screenshot, that partition is NOT listed there.
Thanks!
