possible to recover single folder or jpeg files?

I'm on a Mac 10.7.5 and some folders with JPEG's and a few small videos got corrupted. It seems like Testdisk & PhotoRec can only recover entire partitions - is that correct? That could work if the file structure and hopefully names were maintained, but it seemed to be just doing a raw dump of files with titles that were meaningless to me.
