I'm in the middle of a photorec recovery session (16h and counting) from a damaged hard-disk and 'Pass 0' hasn't finished yet.
Code: Select all
PhotoRec 6.13, Data Recovery Utility, November 2011
Christophe GRENIER <grenier@cgsecurity.org>
http://www.cgsecurity.org
Disk /dev/sdb - 250 GB / 232 GiB (RO) - ASMT 2105
Partition Start End Size in sectors
P Unknown 0 0 1 238475 11 16 488397168
Pass 0 - Reading sector 12232389/488397168, 0/10 headers found
Elapsed time 16h04m54s - Estimated time to completion 626h00m14
Error reading sector 12232389
As you can see from the above, after failing to read 12m sectors (out of 488m), photorec fails to complete 'Pass 0'. Should I get worried? Is there anything that I can do improve the speed?

OK, I got worried so I stopped 'Pass 0' (still at 0/10 headers found):
Code: Select all
PhotoRec 6.13, Data Recovery Utility, November 2011
Christophe GRENIER <grenier@cgsecurity.org>
http://www.cgsecurity.org
Disk /dev/sdb - 250 GB / 232 GiB (RO) - ASMT 2105
Partition Start End Size in sectors
P Unknown 0 0 1 238475 11 16 488397168
Pass 0 - Reading sector 14201304/488397168, 0/10 headers found
Elapsed time 18h40m12s - Estimated time to completion 623h24m36
Error reading sector 14201304
And then suspended 'Pass 1':
Code: Select all
PhotoRec 6.13, Data Recovery Utility, November 2011
Christophe GRENIER <grenier@cgsecurity.org>
http://www.cgsecurity.org
Disk /dev/sdb - 250 GB / 232 GiB (RO) - ASMT 2105
Partition Start End Size in sectors
P Unknown 0 0 1 238475 11 16 488397168
Pass 1 - Reading sector 8192/488397168, 0 files found
Elapsed time 18h41m11s - Estimated time to completion 1114041h18m02
Error reading sector 8192
Two questions:
- Is it OK to continue with 'Pass 1' if I stopped 'Pass 0'?
- How can I use 'expert mode' to properly force the file system block size and the offset for an HFS+ partition?
