First can I say excellent software, brilliant work.
My question is does photorec give each recovered file a unique name, or if all the directories "recupdir" were to be merged, would there be filename clashes?

You can move the files, the filenames are uniques.
Potentialy, you may have duplicated jpg thumbnails, the files are identicals, so you can overwrite them if necessary.
