Novice seeking help...

#1 Post by littlejoe » 07 Apr 2014, 18:50

About a week ago my computer froze and I had to initiate a hard reboot. Since then, I have not been able to boot into Windows 8. I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 which has a OneKey restore option, but it does not fix the issue. I have tried using windows recovery, refresh, restart, and every option the Windows boot manager gives without success. I finally attempted testdisk and while some things look off to me (C drive with RAW format, a partition starting before it ends, etc.), I am not confident enough to just start changing settings.

When running testdisk, I ran the scans with the default selection, EFI GPT. I thought this was strange but went ahead and ran with the default.

I tried running the Quick Search, but it hangs after hitting 100%. I think it is because of the partition that is showing 4877375 to 4877374, size 0:

Any help is greatly appreciated. I also ran testdisk with the /log and /debug commands. It took almost 48 hours to run and created a 10,000 line log file, but I can send that to someone if it is needed.

The testdisk.log file content may help, at least all information before 'Quick Search'.
If you run TestDisk, Advanced, try to list the files of each partition (usually choose Boot and next List).

Thanks, cgrenier. I REALLY appreciate the help. I'm able to list my hard drive files when I choose a drive letter (C or D) as my media, but when I choose a disk (Drive0 or Drive1) it only shows me the files on my thumb drive (where I'm running testdisk). I'm running my cmd prompt from the boot manager on a Win 8.1 disk.

I've copied my log file below. I wasn't able to attach a *.log or *.txt file. So, I hope this is ok. Let me know if I didn't include enough information. Could the issue be with that 4th partition? It looks like there was an error there and I'm seeing two in the current partition structure.

From a Windows cd/dvd (not a restore CD), try rescue mode and run 'fixboot c:"
