Seagate Expansion 2TB - cannot find partition

#1 Post by faima » 28 Jun 2014, 06:27

Hi,

I have been using a Seagate Expansion 2TB external drive plugged into my ASUS RT-N56U router streaming movies to my WD TV Live. About a week ago, movie streaming stopped working. I plugged the drive into my laptop. Initially it could be seen in Device Manager and appeared as an un-initialised drive in Disk Management. I cannot access the disk in Windows. Later in Disk Management the disk was detected as a RAW partition.

First time I ran Testdisk Analyse it was creating a log with loads of read errors that made my laptop internal hard disk filling up (generated 100GB of logs at 32% Analyse complete). Therefore I had to abort it and restart again with no logs though I did capture a snippet of the logs and pasted to this post below. It should be noted Testdisk could only recognise the media as a Drive F, not a Disk and could not recognise any partitions.

TestDisk exited normally.

Second time I ran Testdisk Analyse again it took more than 2 days to complete and at the end nothing/no partitions were found.

Please see the attached screen captures and log file extract.

I have lots of movies stored on the drive and would love to be able to retrieve them. Appreciate any help that can be offered.

Thanks.

Did you use testdisk 64bit?
In case, please use testdisk 32bit and select your physically disk not a drive.
Read errors often indicate a faulty file system or bad sectors.
If you still receive read errors, please let me know.

Hi Fiona,

I have downloaded and ran the 32-bit version of testdisk and I still cannot see the physical disk, all I can see is Drive F: (see attached screenshot).

I tried unplugging and replugging the power supply which somehow triggered Windows detected the disk could be recognised and it ran some kind of check disk. During the check disk was in progress, I could see the file structure of the drive again in file manager but I didn't navigate the file structure or try to open any files as I didn't want to interrupt the check disk process. However after the process was completed Windows was showing the disk as RAW again and I could no longer access the drive see the file structure any more (see attached screenshot).

Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Faima
