WDC 20 GB Lost? testdisk 6.14

#1 Post by asadz »

TestDisk 6.14, I have tried to repair WDC ROM MODEL-SCORPIO and the repair was unsuccessful due to "read errors". I have attached testdisk.log as well.

I think this is due to fact i cannot find any disk part to repair or fix.

Where should i go about now? Any clues , suggestion thanks.

If there are bad sectors, you must clone the disk first:

Ok I will clone using ddrescue and get back to you. Would it not making any difference if testdisk cannot locate any portions as of yet?

The output of both commands

./ddrescue -n /dev/old_disk /dev/new_disk rescued.log
# then try to recover as much of the dicy areas as possible:
./ddrescue -r 1 /dev/old_disk /dev/new_disk rescued.log

on ddrescue output screen shows
rescued: 0 B

ANY help

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear that you are facing such issues with your drive. You could download Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool to try to repair the drive. Here is a link to the website: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=xIkq0v

A cloning software such as Acronis True Image should let you skip the bad sectors. Here is a similar topic I've found: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2295490

Hope this helps.
