WD Black 3tb became RAW

#1 Post by Prime » 06 Jun 2015, 15:29

Hello testdisk team, I need to be saved! I've heard many good things about testdisk but I can't manage to fix my filesystem. Suddenly my WD Black 3tb (internal,GPT and no partitions) became RAW after it woke up from sleep mode. Everything was normal and I didn't put any pressure to the disk, only using it as storage of important files and videos (data of 12 years!!). I managed to recover some files with other programs but many of them are corrupt and the filenames...you know..

So,I did these things after following some instructions on web.I analysed the hdd twice from Drive S :3000/2794 but it shows two L FAT12 partitions. Before that there was a warning about 0xAA55. At the second analysis I went to the first L FAT12 and somewhere I pressed write (I thought it was about write the structure so I can read the files, and then whenever I analyse the disk it shows an extra E extended LBA. I hope it didn't create more problems.

How can I save the disk as it was before?I think I need a step by step walkthrough cause I got tired of trying things I don't know.I don't mind if some files get corrupted,I only wish to see the files and folders where they belong so I can recover them. Also..lets say I can/can't save my data, will I be able to return this disk from where I bought it?Or they will format it and say its ok now?I don't risk again buying 3tb drives for important files..

Any help would be appreciated! If all go well,I will surely donate for your efforts! Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately there is no 3 TB disk listed in your disk selection.
Only a 3 TB drive is recognized and could be a partition etc..
You should check the size of your disk in the disk management console.
Might be possible that your disk size is wrong?
Disk /dev/sda - 180 GB / 167 GiB - CHS 82624 224 19, sector size=512
Disk /dev/sdb - 500 GB / 465 GiB - CHS 60801 255 63, sector size=512
Disk /dev/sdc - 801 GB / 746 GiB - CHS 97451 255 63, sector size=512
Disk /dev/sdd - 750 GB / 698 GiB - CHS 91201 255 63, sector size=512
Disk /dev/sde - 1000 GB / 931 GiB - CHS 121601 255 63, sector size=512
Drive C: - 179 GB / 167 GiB - CHS 82575 224 19, sector size=512
Drive D: - 367 GB / 341 GiB - CHS 44618 255 63, sector size=512
Drive E: - 500 GB / 465 GiB - CHS 60800 255 63, sector size=512
Drive F: - 383 GB / 356 GiB - CHS 46580 255 63, sector size=512
Drive G: - 2613 MB / 2492 MiB - CHS 623 64 32, sector size=2048
Drive S: - 3000 GB / 2794 GiB - CHS 364784 255 63, sector size=512
Drive V: - 1000 GB / 931 GiB - CHS 121600 255 63, sector size=512

Thank you for the response Fiona. That was weird yes..I didn't see my disk in the upper storage list but it was at the drive list. The letter assigned to it is Drive S: - 3000 GB / 2794 GiB - CHS 364784 255 63, sector size=512. I could see it in the disk management too (as RAW) and I managed to recover some files with minitool. Does testdisk only fix the Disk /dev/sd* ?
Most of the anger about my lost data is gone now so I will ask if you know about the warranty. Will they get it back or they will say it is fixable (with a simple format)?
