WD My Passport Ultra no partitions found...

Posted: 28 Jul 2015, 23:59
by LostxSoul
I'm trying to help a friend out. She has not been ejecting her drive but has been just unplugging it. A couple days ago it started not registering on her computer. I have it and I've got it showing as a raw/unformatted drive on my PC. I'm really new to this so bear with me as I try and sort out this mess. The code is after running a quick search. I have no idea where to go from here. The quick search took 6 hours to complete. Thanks in advance for any help.

This image is from the initial run of Analyze Testdisk, before the Quick Search. After running the quick search no partitions were found so I didn't run a deep search.

So I was able to find most of the files on the hard drive. I've been transferring most of them for the last few hours and will continue tomorrow as well. Is there a way to resurrect the drive? Below is the code from the /dev/sdb - 2000 quick search.

ReadFile The drive cannot find the sector requested.
Might be possible that you have a faulty file system or bad sectors?
Can you test your disk using crystaldiskinfo?
http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html
Please download the portable version.

I got exactly same problem with my 2T WD My Passport, exactly error and screen from Testdisk. I don't know how to transferring file to another hard drive LostxSoul, please let me know. I want to copy the data first before doing anything further in fixing the hard drive

I have also had the same.... But TD didnt find any files and just reported all bad sectors. Change type and its now doing a deep search but its going to be another day until thats finished.... but it sounds like the same problem to me but dont know enough to corect this one. Think its possible geometry or boot sector. If i try to write mbr it says no partition....

here my last screen pic...

@ pauljwestran
If i try to write mbr it says no partition....
If it says no Partition, either there was no partition found or not set for recovery.
If mor partitions are found and they overlap each other, they will be displayed with D for deleted.
You should select each partition and press p to have a try to list your data.
If you find the correct partition and you're able to list your files, you can set it to * (Star for primary activ), P for primary only and L for logical partition using the left or right key on your keyboard.
You can watch it at the left side.
You can have another try to write your partition.
If it doesn't help, please let me know.
Antivirus and some other background processes can prevent testdisk from writing to the partition table (MBR).

I didn't find any error. can you explain it a little bit more detailed?
Your photo is taken during a scan and has no significance.
You should finish your scan and upload another screen with the results.
In some case testdisk displays some partitions which end after disk limit and reports that those partitions are not recoverable.
It's a report only and pressing enter will get you to the results.
If partitions are found, you should select them and press p to have a try to list your files.
