Mac OSX used disk utility, erased wrong hard drive

#1 Post by Julio »

Hi, I have accidentally erased the wrong HHD using disk utility in OS 10.6.8. The drive is the main drive in my laptop connected via FireWire800. As soon as I realized my mistake I ejected the disk. will it be be possible for testdisk to make this drive mountable again? I'm semi tech savvy but first few screens are looking pretty daunting. I'm not entirely sure what I need testdisk to do, repair, replace? Sorry for the amateur questions, any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the partition has been deleted, TestDisk should be able to restore it: run TestDisk, select the disk, EFI GPT, Analyse, Quick Search, if your partition is listed, Write, confirm, Quit

Thanks for your help, I got the drive to mount after I quit test disk but the drive is empty, zero files. Is it possible to get my original files and folders back, or, if it mounts empty, am I outta luck?

Thanks again!
