By mistake I made a partion over a portable drive

Hi,

I'm sorry if this issue has been up - I've tried to look for the same problem in this forum (but my english isn't the best)

I had all my life/memories in my 4 TB Expansion portable drive (Seagate).
When I had it plugged in I was about to restore a Windows 8.1 I created a partion to the portable drive.
Now it's says "local drive" and it has like a total space of 31.9 GB instead of 4 TB. Half of the data space is used (15.6 GB).

Can I recover my 2 TB of data?

I have no idea what to do and when I posted it in another forum someone pointed me here. I downloaded the TestDisk and I tryed to guess what to do - but relized I would f*ck it up more if I did something without having a clue about it.

Would anyone help me or at least give me a point in the right direction?

Best regards

Run TestDisk 7.1-WIP, Analayze, Quick Search, Stop, Deeper Search, Stop.
If TestDisk list your 4 TB partition, set it as P(rimary) or *(bootable), on next screen, choose Write, confirm, Quit.

Thank you for the answer

In my frustration I went in a couple of days ago in the disk manager and deleted the "new" partition.

When I did what you said in the first search only the "local disc partition" got up. I selected it as deleted.
After a deeper serach it showed nothing.

Can I add a partition to my external hard drive or Do I have to start evacuate the data?

If your partition isn't found by TestDisk, you can always try PhotoRec but you need enough space on another disk to store the recovered data.
https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf lists some methods to sort the recovered files.
