ntfs recovery help needed

#1 Post by tadax »

quick intro to my issue starts with me deciding to change an artist name for some flac files using foobar2000 and of course it hitches about halfway and became unresponsive so then I end the foobar.exe process with task manager and afterwards folders that i had open on that drive become unresponsive as well so I had to kill explorer.exe and restart it and thats when the hard drive disappears from windows, so I restart my machine and it still doesn't show up(not even in bios settings) so after that i unplug and swap it to a different sata port and it comes up in bios again but of course win 7 wont start. once again i remove and unplug it from the mobo windows is now able to boot up and then i plug the harddrive in my sata to usb dock and i am greeted with the "crc error" did sum googlin drive inaccessible in windows so i boot up rip linux try a go at recovering using test disk and letting run through the night and it didnt find my partition using quick scan but this scan was run without changing the disk geometry .

Hard Drive info

Code: Select all

[Model #- WDC WD5000AKS
             Firmware # - 12.01C01
             CHS- 969021 16 63
Info above from wd diagnostics tool
  ---------------------------------------------------
LBA- 976773168 printed on hard drive label
/code]

TestDisk shows the drive as >Disk /dev/sdd - 500 GB / 465 GiB - WDC WD5000AAKS-00TMA0
i selected intel> analyse>yes to vista question>quick scan for the overnight scanned that pulled up nothing
Test Disk Showed Geometry as CHS 60801 255 63
*test disk did give a read error every sector that was scanned

changed geometry head count to 16 and the cylinders updated to 96021 tried quick scan analyze for a few mins
still couldnt find partition

so i decided to try photorec but when i direct it to problem hard drive its not showing the correct directory
*From Photorec*
Disk /dev/sdd - 500 GB / 465 GiB (RO) - WDC WD5000AAKS-00TMA0
