Photorec 800 hours remaining and still rising - is this normal?

I'm running the latest version of Photorec (7.2 WIP), it has been running for a day, and it gives an ETA of 800+ hours that is only increasing. Searching this forum shows that if given the opportunity it will go on for many days.

Is this expected behaviour as part of a successful recovery, or did something go wrong here? It seems to have recovered a few files, especially many millions of .MPG files, but I'm unsure how many of the recovered files are likely to be false positives.

No need to wait for PhotoRec to finish to check the recovered files. You can check them while PhotoRec is still running.
Remember you must not select the source disk as destination to store the recovered files.
Estimated time to completion may increased if there are bad sectors. In this case, PhotoRec should display warning messages about read error.
