First PhotoRec directory is empty (??), Subsequent ones are not (recup_dir.2 , .3)

I ran PhotoRec (Linux) to recover some documents.

The first directory, recup_dir.1 contains a single entry, an empty directory named Recovery

Recup_dir.1 and recup_dir.2 contain many files, but no Recovery directory.

I'm making sure this is correct. I thought the first 500 files went to recup_dir.1. And that's what's happened before.

It can happen if you have enabled the Expert mode/Unformat.

I enabled expert mode briefly, to read the options and look them up. Then I disabled it. I never ran with expert mode enabled. I don't recall an unformat option. I didn't need to do anything special in photorec. I was working off of a GNU ddrescue copy of a failing hard disk. I ran photorec on the full disk, not just the free space.
