What is the significance of the recup_dir.* directories as created by PhotoRec, please? Were these actual directories on the original disk?
Thanks.

At a lower level
I've used testdisk a number of times, normally to repair partition records from backups. I'm working with a drive at present for which testdisk cannot seem to recover a partition.

Am I right in thinking the contents of the drive are lost?

Re: Boot Sector and Backup Bad
I've tried Boot/Rebuild/List for both NTFS and FAT32 (I can't imagine the drive would be any other type).
Can I assume that the partition table is just lost? Is photorec my only route?
Thanks.

Boot Sector and Backup Bad
I have a drive, which has become inaccessible in Windows.
The disk was one large partition. TestDisk suspects an NTFS partition, but reports that my boot sector is bad, that the backup boot sector cannot be read, and that they are not identical.
Rebuild is unable to find a FAT32 or FAT32 LBA table ...

Re: Healthy, Active...
Yeah, as I thought. The partition tables don't exist. (Neither for FAT32 nor NTFS.) AND The backup date seems to differ from the primary.
What are my options now, please?
Thanks.

Re: Healthy, Active...
That yielded up no files (other than . and ..)
It's possible that this was a FAT32 drive. I can't remember if it should be FAT32 or FAT32LBA. I will be out now for a few days, but here's the logfile. I tried both FAT32 and FAT32LBA as well as NTFS (as NTFS only showed . and ..)

Re: Healthy, Active...
I can't quite decipher it, but I think I'm being told that there's no evidence of ever being a partition on that disk.
Can you help, please with a recovery suggestion? I know the disk is physically healthy and that it's virtually full of files.
Thanks.

Re: Healthy, Active...
CHKDSK /F returns:
The type of the file system is RAW.
CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.
If I do a scan and a deep scan for partition tables, it looks like this:
