Hi. I have an older WD external HD that was dropped. It now will not show up on explorer in windows 10.
When I run analyzer in TestDisk, It shows as a disk error and will scan with no results.
The drive shows up in Device Manager/ Disk Drives. Drivers are current. It says the device is operating properly but it is not.
Under Disk Management, the disk shows up as Healthy but is listed as RAW. The good EHD shows up as NTFS.
When I run Crystal disk, it show as bad and with read errors in the red.
The Current Pending Sector Count is yellow at 195
The Uncorrectable Sector Count is 200.
I am not sure what my next step should be.
Keeping in mind that I am a finance guy and not a technician, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Jim

Re: Test Disk Analyze and Crystal Disk Info Disk Error
Is there any unusual noise, like scratching sounds? In that case contact a recovery company.
Is the drive starting sound-wise comparable to other drives?
Does the start-up of the disc engine go smoothly or is it repeatingly accelerating?
Please attach the Testdisk log file to your next posting.

"EHD" ??? Finance guys should be able to express theirselves understandably for an international audience. The drive shows up in Device Manager/ Disk Drives. Drivers are current. It says the device is operating properly but it is not.

The current sector analytics above suggest duplicating the drive with ddrescue as outlined in the manual. When I run Crystal disk, it show as bad and with read errors in the red.

If the drop somehow affected the heads the intended duplicating process could do harm.
The finance guy has to weigh in the risks of a free self-recovery compared to 3 or rather 4 digit costs of a professional recovery.
