[Help] unrealistically large file sizes for custom signatures in photorec

#1 Post by Deleted User 17300 »

Hello!

I am trying to recover a file with a custom signature using photorec, however, the files should be no bigger than 50mb, yet photorec spits out files that are 50GB> in size. After viewing it in ImHex. It seems like photorec is lumping data together from other files, and it doesn't know where the file should start/end (I'm not sure about this exactly but this is what I theorize). Is there something I need to do for this to not happen? Partition is Xbox FATX. Attempting to open all files recovered in an Xbox gives me corruption errors, so the files aren't properly sized.

Any help, suggestions, and tips is highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Rerun your search enabling all the different file families.

Photorec ends a recovered file upon finding another known file signature.
That should keep your recovered files smaller!
