WD HDD 2 TB turned RAW, asking to format, data not accessible

#1 Post by rumikodia »

I have a 2 TB Western Digital (WD) HDD. It went RAW. The drive is detected by my machine but when I try to access the data by double clicking on the drive, it gives the following error:
"You need to format the drive F: before you use it.
Do you want to format it?"

Kindly advise. I am new to all this recovery stuff.

I read in a post to do the following:
Try TestDisk, Advanced, Boot, RebuildBS, List. If you can see your files, choose Write, confirm, Quit

But I am not able to find the boot option. Please check the attached screenshots and advise.

Thanking You!

There are no screenshots.

Please read:

According to your description it's not the drive who when raw but a partition.
Testdisk is being able to do some basic repairs.

Use the analyse function and try to list the content of the partition using the "p"-key (list files).

You have teen times more broken sectors.

Follow this advice:

Hi

I checked the link provided.

"Please duplicate your drive using ddrescue as described in the manual."

What does duplicate your drive using ddrescue mean? Is there any manual.

Are there many bad sectors on my drive? Will I be able to recover data considering large number of broken sectors?

Kindly advise.

Thanking You!
