psd files recovered but with bad EOF

#1 Post by lcorsetti »

Hi, using Photorec 7.2-WIP on a macbook pro m.2 disk, from another macbook pro wired by a thunderbolt cable to recover some psd files deleted from disk.
After deletion i put the computer in target disk mode and plugged in the firewire cable with thunderbolt adapter. Photorec was able to recover files but all PSD image of the session (around 20mb each file) are corrupted and photoshop says bad end of file. Is there something can i try to recover these files? i searched the forum without finding any hint.
Can provide recovered psd files if needed
Many thanks

The success of using Photorec is highly dependent on the lack of defragmentation.
Photorec ends a file when a new file header is found. Defragmentation would cause this file to be finished although there are still some fragments lying around somewhere else. Therefore the recovered file would be too short.

If recovered files get too long, using commercial recovery software may work.
Maybe this software uses file end markers - if they are part of the file format at all.
