create image ? of what

#1 Post by melani »

I tried to look at some of the examples how to use Testdisk - its not easy for me because Im not young anymore and the program looks like its written in DOS,
Im used to "user graphical friendly" programs for easy use.
I can see the files & folders are still there using "wondershare recover it" , but thats it lets u do with the free version.
I recently Lost my partition on a external Hdd and wanted to know if I use "create image" will it write all my Lost data , files, and folders onto an image ?

Also when I attempt to use Testdisk on this external hdd - it does not show "List" function , it does show the external hdd.

You have the choice to use any other recovery program. Testdisk is not the only one around. Why complain about Testdisk when you can buy so many recovery programs with a graphical user interface?

That function will write a partition. You will need to select the right one, though, if you have more than one partition. I do not recommend using this function for you.

[/quote]You probably expect this function to be on the first screen that show drives. But how should Testdisk present you lost partitions for enquiry if it had not been given the chance to search for them?

I finally managed to use it successfully following a youtube example.

Yes I was able to see the List - after I clicked "Analyze" . Thanks - why do Digital set top Box manufacturers Not tell us if their product has a usb problem - that it can wipe your external hdd - or usb stick ?

This was the 2nd time a Digital set top Box had corrupted erased - my Data or Partition . I now know not to ever trust plugging my storage devices into - Digital set top Box. 3 actually - a Phillips , Teac , and Laser Digital set top Box.

I guess its now time to connect my HDMI from my Laptop to my TV - everytime I want to view .
